Im back

Well after an extremely long time of not posting anything because of my hectic life, i decided it was about time i got back in the game and updated the post. I've managed to achieve a great deal in the last year, including the three peaks for Martin House Childrens hospice, and once again thank you to all the people who donated to that wonderful cause. I also attended Masham beer festival with Mr Spencer and Miss Theakston, in what was certainly a very eventful weekend.

Then there's little Snoop Dog who ain't so little anymore, but is just as gorgeous and fun as the day i got him. He still hasn't been on a shoot yet because we have to wait until he's stopped growing, because he unfortunately has hip dysplasia. I'm still enjoying doing a great deal of fishing, and have had a number of personal best carp this year. Then in 5 weeks i am going skiing to Risoul in France which i am really looking forward to its been too long since i last went skiing.

Im hoping to keep my blog updated as often as possible including new reviews on other equipment i have purchased for hiking, including my hydration systems, tents and sleeping bags i use for days out trekking, i will also be adding fishing tackle reviews in future.

On Wednesday i picked up my dog Snoop whos a black labrador pup at 8 weeks old....he's gorgeous. I got him from a local breeder who had a litter of 11 puupies. I decided that it was time i had a dog to train so i could train him as a gundog. He is a very healthy pup and of a pedigree. Im currently struggling to stay awake because he is whining every night, obviously missing his mother but im hoping this will stop in a couple of weeks.

I chose the name Snoop because when i had been to collect him i was wondering what on earth i was going to call him, when on the radio What's my name by Snoop Dogg was played. I thought this had to be fate and therefore i had no choice to name him Snoop. It was either that or my Dad's suggestion of naming him 'Defer'....as in D for Dog.

The rucksack has been designed for use by the military but is perfect for hikers. The AirJet rucksack comes in different sizes ranging from 25 - 85 litres. I bought the 35ltr version which is perfect size for a day bag. Overall it is an outstanding rucksack, providing comfort and value for money. The AirJet 35 can be bought for around £24 which i think is excellent value. The feature i like the most is the AirJet Back System, a cushioned back with built-in ventilation mesh for added comfort. This really does help reduce sweat where the rucksack is in contact with your body. The other specifications are listed below:

[Walking] Equipment Reviews

Recently ive been taking my hiking more seriously so im gradually purchasing more and more equipment. This made me think that once i have been out and tested it i should write a review about each of the items. It may help other walkers and people who purchase similar equipment make up their mind on what they need and what the best items are. So from now on keep an eye out for my equipment reviews.

[Walking] Skelton's Tower and the Hole of Horcum

Today i managed to get out for a walk, id bought some new equipment like rucksacks and others items which i wanted to test. The main thing i wanted to test though was the GPS software that i mentioned before. Its brilliant it did exactly what i wanted it to do, tracked my every move including average speed distance, time, and altitude, so all i had to do when i got home was to upload the data to my PC and it was all there for me. The walk was excellent aswell i managed to do 6 miles in 1 hour 42 minutes which is fairly good going. Once again i took my camera, you can see the images in the Skeltons Tower album on the right hand side of the page. The weather today was absolutely wonderful, spring is finally on its way around i think. Thats probably why there were so many other people out and about today, i only just managed to get a parking space at the top of the hole of horcum it was that busy.

Im out again for another walk tomorrow, im not sure where at the minute but it will be around eight miles, im planning the route this very minute.

[Walking] Memory-Map

Back to the subject of hiking, ive just got some software by memory-map (http://www.memory-map.co.uk/) which is amazing. Its essentially ordanance survey maps in electronic form. This allows you to plan routes by drawing on the maps where you want to go adding waypoints and other relative information. Once you have planned a route you then upload it to your PDA which also has the software installed so you can see the route on the PDA. The PDA is then connected to a GPS receiver, so when your walking you can see your position on the map. Its satellite navigation for hiking, very very useful software and highly recommended for walkers. I haven't taken my PDA out for a trial run yet, and i haven't discovered all the features, the one feature i am hoping for is that if i walk a route which i haven't planned then im hoping the software will track and plot my route so when i get home i can review my path.

[Coins] 1832 Miraculous Medal

I was also given a gift from my mother the other day that has been passed through the family for many years. Its is 'supposedly' an original 1832 Miraculous Medal made in France and designed by the Virgin Mary herself. The story goes that in 1830 the Virgin Mary appeared on three separate occasions standing on a globe to a woman called Zoe Labore where she was instructed to have the medal struck and distributed. The medal quickly spread as people who wore it were each having visions of the Virgin Mary. My mum had the medal passed down from her from my grandma who in turn had it passed down from her mum and her mother before that ( my great, great, great grandma), that does bring the date to the mid 1800's but whether it is an original will probably never be determined. Im currently wearing it so i hope i don't lose it otherwise there will be a few unhappy people in my family :).

Im not taking anymore pictures of coins now, its driving me mad, its really difficult to get the focus and other aspects correct because the coins reflect far too much light. This is an 1816 King George III Sixpence. The coins seem to get older and older as i go throught the collection it becomes rather obsessive after a while try to find an older coin than the previous one, and the thought that there maybe an extremely rare one in there somewhere. For a coin of almost 200 years old it is still in rather good condition. Ive also found about 20-30 three pence pieces which arnt as old but are in amazing condition.

Heres another one from the coin collection. This time i am 99.9% confident that it is solid silver. Its a 1858 Six Pence piece. Unfortunately i didn't do a very good job of taking a picture of it. All the coins in the collection are in excellent condition except one which is a 1897 diamond jubilee commemoration coin. Im going to try and figure out the individual price of each of the coins but this may take some time. I have a number of these six pence pieces all of which in excellent condition. Im also going to publish a list of the coins i have so that if anyone has information regarding a specific one they can let me know.

My Grandma passed on her coin collection to me the other day so i could go through them and value each of the coins, im not an expert on old coins so ive been using www.google.com, obviously!!! Now i came across this coin which is from 1869 and is belgium from the reign of King Leopold II of Belgium, its a 5 franc piece. I managed to find some information on it but nothing exact, if you look at ebay the current bid for one of these was $13 but it hadn't finished when i last looked. This seems surprising because other research i performed suggests that it is made of solid silver because they didn't stop using silver in Belgium francs until 1878?? Unfortunately i don't personally know a person who is proficient in coin valuations! Please let me know if anybody can clarify whether it is solid silver.

I would like to thank the traffic warden who gave me this parking ticket....no seriously i would! thats because when i phoned up to pay for it and they asked me to confirm the details of the vehicle, the lovely lady at the other end of the phone read out the make of vehicle: volkswagen. Unfortunately for them my car is a Vauxhall which i pointed out to the lady. I was then informed by her that this invalidates the ticket and do not have to pay the fine because the details are wrong!!! Hence me thanking the traffic warden who obviously doesn't know his cars. Perhaps everyone should remove their badges from their cars or change them to another make, this would give the traffic wardens something to think about.

[Walking] Centenary Way - 78.5miles

Walking is the new love in my life, every week i try and fit in two walks to my busy life because it helps relieve stress and helps me keep fairly healthy. Most of the walks are around 6-8 miles in length. Every so often i decide to do a longer one, and this time ive decided to walk the Centenary Way. This route starts at York Minster and Finishes at Filey brigg. Its 78.5 miles long so not the easiest walk in the world and alot longer than the ones im usually doing. Im hoping to do this within the next month after ive done abit of planning. There were a number of options available to me, take the tent and hope to find some places to pitch it on a night, stay in bed and breakfasts along the route, or stay at home because i live right in the middle of the route. The latter would entail getting picked up and dropped off each morning which isnt the most ideal situation. Once ive decided what to do ill be on my way. [Walking] Castle Howard - 8miles

The other day i was trying to decide whether to go for a walk over in cumbria or just got for a walk in the local area. well i decided to go in the local area i actually just walked from my house up to welburn then from welburn across to castle howard and then back to broughton. It was around an 8 mile round trip which isnt bad going as it only took me 2hours 45 minutes. Tax Rebate

My tax rebate finally came through today, i had to wait until the end of the financial year, for me this happened to be january. Its enough to pay off what i owe for my holiday to magaluf and also i might be able squeeze another holiday out of it depending on how things go. Im overworked at the minute with far to much going on and could do with a nice break.

im going to try and get a pleasant days walking done on friday so i can relax for the day, ideally i should be heading up to dent in the yorkshire dales to climb either whernside, ingleborough or pen-y-ghent to get the practice in for June, but this is maybe abit to far to be driving when there are plenty of good walks in the local area.

I was looking for some information on http://johnny.ihackstuff.com/ which is a brilliant site surprisingly run by a fella called johnny. ive never met him but his work in the security industry is well documented.

Thieves, the scum of the earth. I got my ipod stolen from my car yesterday while i nipped in to a shop for 2 minutes so i didnt bother locking it, and when i got back it had been stolen. i suppose its my own fault for leaving the car open but you don't expect something like that happening in two minutes....and then today i went in to York for some lunch which just happened to be the best lunch i have had in a while. 8 Oz Rump steak, curly fries, onion rings, tomato, mushrooms and salad all for £4.49!!!! I couldn't believe it either. I can't remember the name of the place but they have steak days every Wednesday! That was all spoilt when i got back to the car and found that i had a parking ticket for £60 for been 10minutes to late., its turns out my lunch cost me £64.49 not quite as good when you look at it from that perspective.

Scotland

so as i said i might be going to Scotland and i am now. My dad has booked me two days deer stalking, two days fishing and two days golfing at easter which is rather nice of him. Staying in St Andrews for the week which is an amazing town. Thats is around the 22nd of March i think. The week before that i am going down to Cheltenham Race Festival which should be good fun. I had alot of problems finding a hotel because most of them had been fully booked. Brick Walls and Drink == Sore Head

Hope your all recovered from the celebrations..im not unfortunately, after drinking excessive amounts of alcohol on new years eve while having a conversation at 3 oclock in the morning about how sober we had all kept fell head first into a brick wall...not surprisingly the wall won, i didnt and ended up with a badly cut and bruised face! i didnt't even know until i woke up in the morning wondering who had stuck a egg on my head.

This was taken on January 3rd with my new phone but trust me it doesnt look like much but it bled alot apparently and all the swelling has gone down when the picture was taken.

Christmas

Hope everyone had a wonderful christmas, i certainly did! i spent christmas day driving around seeing lots of different relatives from selby to copmanthorpe and then on to wetherby...busy day. I ate and drank excessive amounts in the evening though..I spent boxing day at wetherby races which was a really enjoyable day, i had a few bets and didnt win a thing so spent the rest of the day in the beer tent.

I am Legend is a new film from Will Smith, its a good story but very similar to 28days later. A scientist discovers a way to cure cancer using a virus, it cures the cancer and then kills 5 billion of the worlds population and turning half the remaining population into flesh eating zombies who can only go out at night, so the people who wernt infected are eaten leaving Will Smith on his own. Conveniently he's a scientist, and is also completley immune to the virus. He sets out with his friend (an alsation) to find a cure, The film wasnt as good as i was expecting but it is certainly still worth a watch.

As most people who know me are already aware that i am doing a degree for Sheffield Hallam University, based at york college. Well i arrived bright and early this morning prepared to learn and discovered that the college domain controller (server) was dead, now the domain controller manages logins for ALL users of the college network. no server no logins...and hence no work! well the other week we had a lecture on backups, and how important they were. wouldn't you have thought that the college would have a backup domain controller for occasions like today, when the server dies they have another to fulfill its role. Nope nothing.....so i ended up in Pizza Hut at 11 oclock to grab a bite to eat. I have never experienced such pathetic food and service anywhere else in my life. Cold food, foul tasting food, miserable staff and well the price was appauling too. Anyway thats my rant for the day, hopefully tomorrow will be an improvement, considering i have the day off i think it will be.

You would have thought that since its been a while since i posted that i would have lots of interesting news....i don't nope i lead a very boring life. Handed another assignment in yesterday and the day before that i spend over an hour getting my teeth fixed in the dentist...only another 3 more appointments to go now.

Its my brothers (Bob) birthday today so just having a chinese and chilling at home, was going to go out but then decided against that because i have to set of to Newcastle at 7.30 in the morning. Im going to help a friend move house. The only problem with that is its near to christmas and we have to drive past the metro centre, hopefully it won't be busy at 9ish in the morning. Ohhh sorted out a really nice hotel to stay at when i go to Cheltenham Festival in March, Wyck Hill House which is a gorgeous mansion in the Cotswolds.

Im having to cut back on drink at the moment because its messing with my medication im taking at the minute and sends me loopy :) not that, that wasn't the case already.

Been hunting around the internet for the last few days in an attempt to find a hotel for Cheltenham Racing Festival in March 2008. so far the best deal ive got is for 2 double rooms which is £1,272 for the week, and that doesnt include the £262 for a weeks access to the racing! or the spending money for gambling and drinking.......Nightmare. im sure i can come up with that money i have knack for making money and it will be worth every penny also if the worst comes to the worst theres always a tent to be taken!! (not sure about showering though)!!!

So i was bored the other day and decided to write a Remote Administration Tool (RAT) probably more widely known as a trojan, its called ZKiller 1.0, its subtle but very vicious!!! It currently supports the following functions, but more will be added later:

Screen Capture
Keylogger
VNC, and other programs, Password Recover
Reverse Connect
Remote Port Change

Im keeping this RAT private for the time being because i want it to remain undetected for aslong as possible. No doubt as time goes by i will think of more functions to add.

I have also ported SASI (Sec-1 Automagic SQL Injector) to VB so it now has a nice GUI and turns the tool into a simple point and click application.

bah, once again i haven't posted on here for a while, with me being busy and all. i finally got my results for my assignment which i passed. I didn't get a mark as high as i expected but its better than a kick in the sack. The one thing that did annoy me is the lad (thing) that did no work towards the assignment got better marks than me and others, this was probably down to the fact that he threated to commit suicide because he didn't want to fail!!!! it should have been irrelevant to the tutor but obviously it "influenced" her decision.

Took a dog called Micey out for a walk on Saturday, its a 3 year old (gorgeous) labrador owned by an even more gorgeous local girl. I wanted to see if was able to be used as a gundog when i go shooting. It is quite obidient the only thing it struggled with was bringing what it picked up back to you, it thought it was a game and refused to drop it. im hoping that after a while i will be able to stop it doing that and get it to retrieve properly.

Went shooting again today which is the way i spend everyday i have off college (Tuesday and Friday). It was only a 150 bird day so we were all finished by 3 O'Clock.

Back at university tomorrow ive got 4 assignments to hand in before the end of Decmeber so im going to be pushed for time but i should be able to manage.

I haven't written on my blog for a while, been to busy working and university. Well one of my nice expensive teeth fell out on saturday which isn't very good, i just hope they don't charge me for it again otherwise i won't be happy. Had a night out in shitty Malton on Saturday and got extremely drunk (as usual), I've also decided that after i have completed my sponsored walk in June, that i am spending around 20 days cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats as my next charity event that will be in July during my break from university. Its around 986 miles so in 20 days that is about 50miles per day, hard work but should be good fun. Im starting training for that this Saturday with around a 20miler just to see how i fare, and then will probably go out and do the same on Sunday. Been doing alot of walking on the Wolds to get my fitness up for the walk, so all in all im feeling alot healthier and capable of completing these challenges.

Christmas Comes Early!!

Christmas has come early for me this year and thats because i have wonderful parents who have bought me a hell of alot of stuff this week and it has arrived today. im meant to be waiting until christmas before i can have everything but i suspect with a little persuasion (and my being spoilt) i might be able to have it early. The one thing about being single is ive realised i wont have to purchase as many presents this year.

But i wont even start on the subject of women at the moment cos i dont think i could spend that amount of time typingm my fingers would become stubs, its a story for another day.

its D day tomorrow i find out whether i managed to excel and get a distinction for my assignment. it worth 50% of my final mark i think so hopefully if its a good mark it will put me in a good position for the rest of the year, that doesn't mean ill stop putting the effort in. I have a point to prove that i can run my own business and complete a degree without breaking a sweat.

I think most people who go to work do hard graft and really put the effort in!...i thought so. well i think i might have failed in that respect today, i hit the champagne with sloe gin and cherry brandy with whiskey this morning and ended up completley sloshed before 11 o'clock which made the day go much faster and more enjoyable! now your probably all thinking i have a problem (i have many but wont go in to that now), but the rest of the people "working" were all hammered too and they were the ones offering the booze around. Cant wait to go back to "work" on Friday.

Finally got my assignment handed in yesterday, it was a mad rush to get everything complete but just scraped by. Now i have a week to wait for the results so kind of hoping i have passed.

[rant]One of the lads in our group had done practically no work for the whole assignment when it came to handing the work in he broke down in tears, but he has nobody but himself to blame for that. That was fine by me i can cope with that, but when he went to fill out his personal assessment he put himself down for 80% effort! hehehe. And at 27 years of age i think he needs to get a grip on things.[/rant]

I was meant to be going down to London today but unfortunately i had to cancel at the last minute so i lost £66 on my non-refundable tickets. Nightmare.

Golf

Played golf today for the first time in a couple of months. Only managed to get in 9 holes because of some stupid slow four ball in front of me and because i was playing by myself i had no standing on the course and they didnt let me through (ridiculous rule). It took about 2 1/2 hours to play 9!!! But not to worry atleast i got some fresh air an exercise and it got me away from my assignment for a while. So ive managed to get my handicap down to 15 over the summer which isnt bad considering ive only played around 7 rounds. Ive set myself a goal of getting down to single figures by September 2008.

Just got back from a days shooting, which was very enjoyable. It was for Mr. Burgess of Burgess Feeds Group, who must be very happy with the days outcome. Was tempted to go find a bonfire and fireworks display tonight but have since changed my mind cos i cant be arsed and have no one to go with!! (Mr. No Friends). So Im out in rocking Malton tonight instead which is always something to "look forward to".

Ive just spent the last week solving the mice infestation in our garage. They had got into our cars and chewed through hundreds of pounds of fishing tackle and made a mess of other items. So far the death toll is at 6 and im hoping that this will increase over the next few days! Its amazing how such small creatures can cause so much damage. Animator vs. Animation

We were doing some work the other day with Macromedia Flash, when i was shown this example of animation and what can be achieved. This is possibly the best animation i have seen in Flash EVER! I doubt i'll ever be able to create anything quite as good as this, although even if i could i wouldn't want to devote all the time this guy spent on making it.

Google and DNS

I see a rather alot of people are having issues witht the custom domain settings! ive just been trying to setup my blog to redirect to http://www.rhss.co.uk/ but for some strange reason it said another blog was already hosted there. Strange...thats my domain and there isnt anything there! Whats even more weird is that it would accept http://rhss.co.uk/ which isnt really what i wanted, so Google looks to be having some form of issue with DNS management or something along those lines. But anyhow i've been starring at a damn computer screen for the past 24 hours, so its about time i got my beauty sleep. Im outta here!!

Assignments and Dreamweaver (what nightmares are made of)

Has anybody ever had the pleasure of using that "wonderful" product Dreamweaver, i only ask because its driving me insane. i have an assignment to hand in this Thursday, had a wonderful fully working website until the templates created in Dreamweaver decided to break! (apparently beyond repair). No backups...No assignment.arghhh!! Well atleast i now know what im spending the weekend doing.

Dental Treatment

So my teeth are half-way to being fixed. i had my (very painful) root canal treatment the other day and that seemed to stop most of the pain. Only need to have another 4 appointments over the next 2 months and then hopefully they will be as normal as they can get. So the only problem ill have is paying the £2000 that it costs to get them done.
